The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner |
The Ultimate Guide to The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner
The initial purchase from the brand is The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner Solution. It also signifies my introduction into the arena of chemical exfoliation, something less abrasive technique of skin exfoliation that leaves one with the radiance of youth.
Before this, I would use abrasive scrubs that would induce acne and did nothing to clear up the underneath of my skin.
For further information on how The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner can help you clear up your pores, lessen blemishes, and achieve an even skin tone see this blog post.
The Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution grabbed my attention even though I had doubts about how it would work on my skin. Ever since I heard about The Ordinary, I have observed realistic people's stories with the products. I'd always wanted it because I'd heard great things about it. I've been using it for three to four months and noticed a change in my skin.
I will discuss this acid toner and my usage experience in this blog.
How do you define Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution?
An exfoliant meant to remove dead skin cells from the skin's surface is glycolic acid 7% toning solution. It aids in skin clarity improvement, skin tone balancing, and texture healing over time. This formula contains a Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative of plant origin; from the time the composition shows signs of this color change.
The glycolic toner solution shouldn't administer to sensitive, peeling, or other damaged skin. Please adhere to the instructions' other cautions and the supplementary sun protection statement.
This composition has a pH of roughly 3.6. The most critical factor when formulating with acids is pKa, which is 3.6 for glycolic acid. pH availability implied by pKa. An optimal equilibrium between saltiness and acidity exists when pKa is near pH, enhancing the acid's potency and minimizing discomfort.

How I utilize it and the numerous applications for this solution
Usage 1: Toner, of course
- Since this is a toner, you can use it (preferably in the evening) but only once a day at the most (The Ordinary discourages too acidic exfoliation, and neither do I).
- However, I should warn anyone with acne-prone skin or skin that has wounds or cuts that this will sting. On the face, a fresh pimple or one that has picked up could itch.
- Use by saturating a cotton pad and rubbing it on your face and neck (and do not wash it off).
Usage 2: To combat underarm odor (acid deodorant)
- Because glycolic acid toner has a low pH and interferes with some microorganisms that cause sweat to smell under the armpits and prevents their proliferation, it lessens the odor.
What to do
- After taking a shower, put this under your armpit (NOT THE DAYS SHAVE) by massaging a small amount of the glycolic toner with your fingers or applying a cotton pad. One must be consistent because this product takes time to function.
- Remember: If your skin can handle it, apply this more frequently if your skin is more forgiving. Additionally, doing this helps with ingrown hair bumps and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) beneath the arms brought on by shaving.
Usage 3: To soothe hard skin
- AHA helps to reduce stiff, rough, and textured skin by speeding cell turnover and removing the top layer of the skin, which in this case is the harsh, solid layer, to uncover a soft, soothing effect. Apply this on the grittier skin on the body.
What to do
- You can accomplish it by swiping with a cotton pad (or simply applying it with your fingertips). But don't forget to moisten the area as well.
- When applying an exfoliating acid AND a moisturizer to soften the rough skin, you might get a double-whammy effect that softens the skin even more.
- Another option is to combine some glycolic toners with a moisturizer or lotion and apply the resulting mixture directly to the skin (which reduces the wait time).
-Knees:
- Use this to soothe and lessen your knees' ashy appearance!
- Because the knees are so strong, you can utilize this three times each week (but this depends on your sensitivity).
- However, it again takes approximately a month to notice some positive results (be sure to moisturize, though, to make the impact even more noticeable).
-Elbows:
- Repetition of the knee-to-elbow motions is necessary because the elbows are also extremely black and rough.
- Acid should aid in removing hard, dead skin cells, softening the skin, and enhancing the area's brightness. Once more, advise moisturizing in addition to regular use for positive outcomes.
-Toes:
- Treat rough skin or darkening on the toes caused by rubbing against shoes or trainers, soak a cotton pad in glycolic acid toner and apply it to the affected area.
- Again, regular use is required; aim for once every three days.
Usage 4: On the arms' backs
- When you have keratosis pilaris, your skin develops what resembles chicken pimples. They are bumps made of a buildup of dead skin.
- Use the 5% Lactic Acid for the bumps on the back of the arms (KP). Then move on to the 10% LA, then the 7% Glycolic Acid Toner because Glycolic acid toner is a firmer acid exfoliant:- although it is more potentially irritating, it should give visible results sooner.
- Lactic acid is weaker and suited for more sensitive skins or first-timers.
- However, I believe that people who are easily agitated can benefit from working up to a higher percentage.
What to do
- After taking a shower, gently swipe the bumps on the back of the arms with a cotton pad and let the product absorb and dry.
- Use a little moisturizer after (to help reduce the dry bumps).
- Depending on the sensitivity, do this every other day or every three days.
- Require ongoing use.
Usage 5: Ears
- When you wear headphones a lot, they rub against your ears and gather earwax, sweat, and filth. Working out while listening to music might cause you to sweat and rub your earbuds, accumulate dirt, and lead to the development of blackheads.
What to do
- Soak a cotton bud with Glycolic toner (but not too much, as that would cause the product to drip into your ears), and then swab the ear where the blackheads are.
- It helps lessen any bacteria that grow off of sweat from exercise and rubbing earbuds.
- Through exfoliation and shedding, the glycolic toner should help clear out clogged pores and diminish the appearance of blackheads.
- Whenever it appears better, ease up to once a week after doing it every three days.
Usage 6:Remove Cracked Heels
- Dry skin on the bottoms of the feet can lead to cracked heels. Then, the natural reaction of many is to use a moisturizing or hydrating cream to address the issue.
- That's not incorrect, but the dry, dead skin cells on your heels can be preventing your skin from fully absorbing these hydrating treatments, so you might not be benefiting as much as you believe.
- Therefore, be sure to exfoliate before applying hydrating products. It turns out that glycolic acid toner is a superb chemical exfoliant.
- With this mild toner that enhances the texture and gently exfoliates it, you can get a soft heel.
How to apply glycolic acid toner to heal cracks:
- Ideal usage is once a day, particularly at night.
- Put some glycolic acid toner on a cotton swab.
- Rub it on the heel's dry skin.
- Foot cream to moisturize.
- Wear some socks over your feet while you sleep for faster results.
Usage 7: The Scalp
- Dandruff-driven dry scalp. To treat it, acid exfoliation assists in removing the top layer of dead skin cells and easing itchiness.
- It strikes me as an excellent substitute for scalp scrubs (which can remove dry skin from the scalp but can also leave the scalp still looking flaky).
- Chemical exfoliants assist in removing a buildup of goods (such as dry shampoo, lotions, and other items) that can also result in those uncomfortable lumps on the scalp (by blocking pores). Glycolic acid toner is an example of an alpha hydroxy acid that is excellent in removing dead skin cells from the skin's surface and has several advantageous qualities for the hair and scalp.
What to do
- Apply this before taking a shower on dry hair. Apply it all over the scalp using the bottle's tip (this specific bottle has a convenient, easy-to-use nozzle).
- Use your fingers for massaging. Depending on how the scalp feels, repeat this process every two weeks.
- It does tingle on the scalp after 10 to 15 minutes of application.
- Then take a shower to remove it. Proceed to shampoo and conditioner after that. There is no subsequent discomfort in the scalp.
Usage 8: Fighting off ingrown hair and strawberry legs
- After shaving, you frequently notice those little, dark specks on your legs known as "strawberry legs." These dark dots mimic the seeds on the skin of a strawberry, hence the term "strawberry legs," which can sometimes be mistaken for dirt.
- Dead skin cells clog the pores on the legs and get black due to a lack of regular exfoliation, which is the most frequent cause of strawberry legs.
- For this reason, we should frequently exfoliate our legs to get rid of dead skin.
- By unclogging pores on your legs, glycolic acid's exfoliating qualities dead skin cells and prevent strawberry legs and ingrown hairs from appearing.
How to prevent strawberry legs with glycolic acid toner:
- Ideal usage is once a day, particularly at night.
- Use the glycolic acid toner to saturate a cotton pad.
- Go over your legs with it.
- Have a restful night's sleep.
How long will it take to see results?
With constant use, one can see a change in your complexion (more radiant skin) after a few days. If you're using higher percentages of AHAs, it takes months to see an anti-aging benefit in reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Some estimate 4-6 months, while others claim you should notice in one to two months.
Fragrance?
There are no additional essential oils or fragrances in this. However, I do find that glycolic toners typically have a vinegary smell (probably due to the low pH).
Why should you choose the regular 7% glycolic acid toning solution?
- Focuses on texture ambiguities
- Makes skin smoother
- Reduces imperfections
- Evenly toned skin
- Affordable
- Cruelty-free
- Treats blackheads and whiteheads
- Increases the effectiveness of skincare products' penetration
Reasons Why Should Steer Clear Of The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution?
- For those with sensitive skin or rosacea, it can be too potent.
- It creates an unsightly covering.
- Applied more than once, it will make the skin extremely sensitive.
- Since it is more concentrated, finding goods that will complement it is challenging.
What Do I Think About the Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner?
Before writing the review, I used this glycolic toner for approximately four to five months, and I have a lot of positive things to say. Never before has my skin seemed or felt as smooth as it does today. My skin tone is noticeably cleaner and more even, and the texture on my forehead and nose has also improved.
Packaging
The bulky, translucent plastic bottle containing the glycolic acid toner has a screw cap that needs changing to a dropper cap. The Cap opened and closed by twisting one way or the other. The bottle is easy to use and robust. I adore how packaged everything from The Ordinary is.
Personal Experience Using The Ordinary Toner
My skin felt hot and itched for the first 10-15 minutes after using this glycolic acid toner for the first time. For the next few days I used it, I would continue to feel this sensation, primarily in the area surrounding my mouth.
I also observed that this glycolic toner left a smidge of film on my skin. With the Pixi Glow Tonic, I never had this problem.
After a few days, the tingling sensation significantly decreased, and the area no longer felt as sticky. Although I no longer feel any tingling after using this glycolic acid toner, I always sense warmth for the first two to three minutes after using it.
Because of how sensitive my skin is, the stinging may last longer or be more intense for different people, but it will almost certainly still be there.
Glycolic acid toner produces mild irritation. Your skin eventually gets tolerant.
Implications of the Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner
After a few uses, my skin started to feel softer and smoother. Whiteheads and skin congestion have been a problem for me, but daily use of glycolic acid toner has helped.
There isn't much rough texture.
My skin is now softer and more radiant as a result of this.
There was less skin discoloration, and I could see that my skin was getting more even.
My pores have somewhat reduced as a result. This glycolic toner assists in clearing out the clogged oil and grime that caused my pores.
I found my face was less dull and had more even tones after using the glycolic acid toner regularly.
Most of my skin issues by skin congestion, which was what I tackled to give me clear and beautiful skin.
Getting to a Frequent Query Heard
???
Does The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner cause my skin to revert to its previous state if I stop using it?
- Your skin would be OK as long exfoliate it, even using products from a different brand. Clearer skin is achieved by exfoliation.
- To remove the dead skin cells that might clog your pores and cause comedowns and acne, you should exfoliate your skin frequently.
- Additionally, the ordinary glycolic acid toner only does that subtly. Consider this a necessary component of your skincare regimen, just like cleansing is.
Why I Appreciate It
Glycolic acid Toner, as previously mentioned, aids in the removal of the top layer of skin, revealing softer, less harsh skin beneath.
Because of this, shedding can aid in the cure of congested pores (i.e., blackheads). It can also lessen the likelihood that scabs will turn into scars (so it helps with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation).
I appreciate the calming ingredients added to this product to decrease discomfort by using acids. This solution is practical for a range of situations thanks to the qualities of glycolic acid!
What I Relish
- No scent or essential oils because there is a higher likelihood of skin irritation when employing acids or actives, it is generally not a good idea to incorporate these.
- Large bottle, especially considering the cost!
- Ingredients include to lessen skin irritability and soothe it.
What I Deem Offensive
- It strikes a chord with me strongly. Therefore, it is inappropriate for people with sensitive skin (as the company has stated).
- There are additional milder AHAs that can use on the face. I will say that for those with sore acne, this will sting those types of pimples.
Summary of Findings
Overall, I believe that this is a fantastic product for the money! Simply put, it's not suitable for people with reactive skin, irritated skin barriers, or who can't use acids in general on their faces. The thin, twisting nozzle that comes with the product dispenser, which I adore, and the fact that it's useful for a different technique, makes me think this is a fantastic body product.
Without forgetting SPF, you will need to be patient to witness the benefits, but I can promise you that with just a few applications, you will start to detect some changes.
This excellent lotion is incredibly affordable if you want to start with chemical exfoliation.
